Laura offers Remedial Massage therapy and private yoga & meditation programs, personally tailored to each person’s specific needs and goals. She is passionate about using yoga, meditation and massage as tools to help people find ease and joy living in their bodies. She aims to promote the body’s self healing mechanisms and increase the longevity of ones health span. Utilising many different approaches to achieve results ranging from calming and restoring the nervous system, to pain relief and rehabilitation or increasing strength and focus. She takes a holistic therapeutic approach, viewing body and mind as inextricably linked, treating the person as a whole.

Laura studied her Level 1 YTT at Byron Yoga Purna centre in 2017, completing her first 200hr qualification. She then completed another 200hr Qualification with Fly High Yoga in Hatha, Vinyasa, Iengar, Yin, Restorative and Aerial Yoga in Bali. In 2018 she underwent a Level 2 Yoga & Meditation 300hr YTT and Certificate 4 in Yoga teaching via the Byron Yoga Purna centre. These courses are officially recognised by and registered with the International Yoga Alliance.

Laura completed her Diploma of Remedial Massage January 2024 after training for 2 years via Evolve College in Melbourne. This qualification is nationally recognised.

Laura’s additional Qualifications are Reiki Level 1, 2 and Master level Via the OM Reiki Centre and the Lisa Powers training program. 2016-2018

Laura lives and breathes her passion for holistic healthcare. Away from the mat or massage table you will find Laura with her nose buried in a healthcare related book or practicing and teaching aerial yoga. Laura has plans to further her remedial massage education and study the application of dry needling. Laura has a lifelong background in movement and kinaesthetic learning. She trained in dance to a professional level from the time she could walk into early adulthood, and utilized massage therapy in a non professional capacity amongst her peers as part of keeping up with the physical demands.

The role of a Massage Therapist

Massage Therapy is a form of physical therapy which focuses on the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of soft tissue dysfunction, injury and disorders affecting activity and mobility. There is an emphasis on treating the bodies soft tissue framework which includes muscle, tendons, ligaments and fascia.

Symptoms associated with Soft Tissue Dysfunction
Pain that is located within muscle tissue or muscle fascia is called myofascial pain.

Symptoms can include:

  • deep and constant aching
  • muscle tightness
  • sore spots in the muscle (myofascial trigger points)
  • reduced joint mobility
  • stiff joints
  • numbness
  • recurrent tingling, prickling or ‘pins and needles’ sensation.
What to expect on your first massage therapy appointment?

You’ll be greeted with a warm welcome, then asked to fill out the customary ‘patient information form’, that comprises of your personal details, your health history, followed by information related to why you are visiting e.g. headache, neck pain or low back pain etc.

Once completed, you will be taken through to the treatment room. Your information is then reviewed. A physical examination is performed combining palpatory, range of motion and orthopedic procedures.

You’ll be provided with an explanation and diagnosis regarding your specific complaint / problem. A customized treatment & management plan can then be presented. Information regarding treatment techniques, frequency of visits, your specific health goals and treatment alternatives are also discussed.

If it appears that massage therapy is a good option, then treatment can be provided immediately. All treatments vary, but a typical treatment will incorporate some form of massage technique, stretching, dry needling or cupping. Home based advice is provided that considers postural, exercise or ergonomic considerations. If massage therapy is not recommended, then an alternative option will be provided.
